To many kids, their back to school clothing is the perfect way to show off their unique personality to their peers. However, finding weather and classroom-appropriate clothing can be a daunting task, especially for parents. But don’t worry! Here’s a list of must-have pieces we know all kids will want to rock for the new school year!
Back to School Clothing for Boys
Preschool (2 to 5 Years)
Dark Shoes
At this age, your little one will likely be spending a lot of time playing outdoors. Dark-colored shoes will stand up to stains and dirt far better than light-colored ones. That way, they can play to their heart’s content without worrying about keeping their shoes clean and tidy.
Warm Jacket
The weather during the start of the school year can be unpredictable. Make sure your child has a warm jacket that’ll protect them against anything Mother Nature has in store! Ideally, you’ll want to look for a jacket that’s soft and warm for chilly days. But it also should be breathable and sun-protectant for hot days too.
Extra Undies
If you’re still in the potty-training process, it’s always a good idea to keep extra undies on hand at all times. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Graphic Tees
Your preschooler is at the age where they’ll want to start showing off their personal style. Grab them a few different graphic tees of their choice to rock in the classroom. Dinosaurs, bulldozers, astronauts – let their fashion creativity run wild!
Sweat Set
Ideal for nap time or outdoor play, a cozy sweat set is always good to have in your kid’s closet. It’s great for those chilly fall days as it can be layered over other clothes. And they’re loose and stretchy so they’re easy to take on and off!
Elementary and Middle School (Ages 6 to 12)
Denim Jeans
A pair of durable denim jeans is a must for the start of the school year. Timeless, fashionable, and easy to match with any type of shirt, denim is a wardrobe staple for any student.
Rugby Shirt or Polo
We’re big fans of collared shirts because they really polish up any type of outfit. Plus, they look great when worn with chinos or denim jeans. For warmer days, a short-sleeve polo is a nice option. Or you can choose a striped rugby shirt with long sleeves if the weather is a bit colder.
Sneakers
At this age, kids spend just as much time on their feet as they do sitting at their desks. With a comfy pair of sneakers, they’ll be able to hop from P.E. to Math with ease. Look for a pair with non-slip soles to help prevent falls if they’re extra active!
Hoodie
A hoodie is the ideal piece for layering. It’s suitable for all seasons and can be worn over a tee or under a warmer jacket for extra protection. And with a relaxed fit, it’ll likely grow with them over the next few years.
Back to School Clothing for Girls
Preschool (2 to 5 Years)
Slip-On Shoes
Velco or lace-up shoes can be a bit complicated for preschool-aged kids. Instead, get them a pair of slip-on shoes that they can take on and off whenever they want. That way, you won’t have to worry about them tracking mud or dirt into the house after school!
Extra Undies
Make getting ready in the morning an exciting adventure with adorable cotton stretch undies. Soft, comfortable, and adorned with playful patterns and characters, your little one will love getting dressed!
Sweat Set
For girls who don’t mind getting dirty at recess, a sweat set is a must-have. It’s easy to wear over their normal school clothes to protect against dirt and mud. Or they can wear it alone to stay extra comfy throughout the school day!
Fun Short-Sleeved and Long-Sleeved Tops
If your little fashionista wants to wow, then make sure they have fun tops to wear for their friends. Let them pick out a couple of short-sleeved and long-sleeved shirts that show off their personality.
Elementary and Middle School (Ages 6 to 12)
Plaid
Plaid is a timeless back-to-school classic, so why not stock your child’s wardrobe with several plaid options? The Limited Too Plaid Pleated Skirt goes well with almost any top, including T-shirts, hoodies, and letterman jackets. If your child prefers dresses over skirts, the Limited Too Plaid Jumper Dress lets her layer her favorite shirts underneath it. When the weather gets colder, pair these outfits with leggings and/or a coat!
Windbreaker
A windbreaker is the perfect accessory for back to school weather. Make sure it’s wind and water-proof resistant to stand up to those cold and wet autumn days.
Denim Jeans
A good pair of denim jeans can last for years. Both dark and light-colored denim can be matched with a variety of tops and jackets, making it a versatile item.
Cargo Pants
Cargo pants have made a huge comeback over the last few years! If your pre-teen is a budding fashionista, then make sure to stock her closet with a pair. Bonus points if it’s a fun color to match her personality!
Hoodie
For cozy classroom days or after-school activities, don’t send your daughter to school without a warm hoodie. From graphic prints to athletic styles, they come in so many different style options for her to choose from.
Denim Jacket
A denim jacket is one of those iconic pieces that will never go out of style! But instead of just your basic denim, look for one with a cool graphic on the front or back. That way, it’ll be just as unique as your little girl is!
Sneakers
With a pair of fashionable sneakers, she won’t have to sacrifice comfort for style. Whether she’s hitting the gym or the mall, she’ll always look her best in these timeless kicks.
Remember, back to school clothing is only one of the things you’ll need to shop for this school year. It’s also important to stock up on school supplies like backpacks and electronics. Being prepared with all the necessities will guarantee that both you and your student are ready for this exciting new chapter ahead of you!
