The Best Winter Skincare Routine for Men

Men, if you don’t already have a skincare routine, it’s time to get some products and add one in! In the winter, the wind, low temperatures, and high indoor heat can wreak havoc on your skin. But there’s good news: creating a winter skincare routine for men is actually easier than you think. Here are some products we recommend to help take care of your skin during the cold winter months.

The Best Winter Skincare Routine for Men

A good winter skincare routine comes down to knowing your skin and what it needs. Everyone has the same basic skincare requirements, including:

  • A cleanser to wash the face
  • An exfoliation product
  • A moisturizer, preferably with collagen
  • Sunscreen to protect against UV rays

Still, your skin likely has individual needs as well. For example, some people have dry skin, meaning they need to use a heavier moisturizer. Others have oily skin, so they need a cleanser that effectively tackles grease.

If you struggle with acne, you might also want to find products to target your zits. In particular, look for products using benzoyl peroxide and/or adapelene. Both ingredients reduce the appearance of acne on your skin.

Before applying any product to your face, try it out on the inside of your wrist. Some people have sensitive skin and react to some skincare items. So, seeing if you break out on your wrist helps you determine whether or not you should put the products on your face!

If you end up getting raised bumps or red patches when you use most products, you likely have sensitive skin. Using items labeled “gentle” may provide you with some relief and enable you to keep your skin healthy in the meantime!

Step 1: Use a Cleansing Face Wash

One of the most important steps in a winter skincare routine for men is having a good face wash. Washing your face in the morning and evening is a great way to cleanse your skin of any dirt and grime. A good face wash gets deep into your pores and refreshes your skin. For the best results, cleanse your face once in the morning and once at night.

However, you’ll want to to remember that using a face cleanser often strips your skin of moisture. While hydrating cleansers are available, you’ll need to add some other products in to keep your skin from drying out.

Step 2: Exfoliate

In the winter, your skin can start to feel dull, dry, and flaky. After you use a cleanser, you should exfoliate with a facial scrub at least 2-3 times a week. Exfoliating products usually rub against the skin without causing pain, getting rid of the dead-skin build-up.

Step 3: Moisturize

A must-have in any winter skincare routine for men is a good moisturizer. Because the colder temperatures suck the moisture out of your skin, you need to replenish it. There are several ways to do this, including drinking enough water, but one of the easiest ones involves using a moisturizer. It’ll hydrate your skin while also minimizing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, some moisturizers come with sun block. If possible, you should try to get a product that has at least 20 SPF in it. Applying this type of moisturizer at least once a day will protect your skin from wrinkles and sun spots!

Step 4: Add Lip Balm

Most people don’t think about lips as part of their skin, but the truth is, they need as much rejuvenation and protection as the rest of our bodies! If you find yourself getting dry lips in the winter, add some hydrating lip balm or oil to your routine. You may even want to buy some lip products to put in your wallet, pockets, or car so you can moisturize your mouth on the go.

Since your lips also come into contact with UV rays, opt for a product with some SPF. Keep in mind that most sunscreens are harmful if ingested. So, look for a product that has been formulated for lips.

Step 5: Sunscreen

Yes, you still need sunscreen, even in the winter! Your skin can still get sun damage. Rather than slathering on the thick sunscreen you’d use in the summer, go with an SPF moisturizer. It’ll feel lightweight while still protecting your skin.

Optional Winter Skincare Items

Beard Oil

Products for your beard are great to incorporate into a winter skincare routine for men. Whether you have a full-on beard or light stubble, beard oil will soften and condition your facial hair while also nourishing dry skin.

Facial Serum

Serums hydrate your skin and can keep it moisturized for 72 hours. As such, it’s invaluable during the winter months, when the air dries out your face. Use a serum once every few days for the best results!

Face Mask

Using a face mask every now and then is a great way to give your skin some extra TLC. Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, you’re going to find a face mask that meets your needs.

If you want the face mask to go extra deep, get one infused with charcoal to cleanse your pores.
